The Good Skin Habits Guide

Cleanse. Twice-a-day ritual. Resist the temptation to get squeaky clean even if your skin is oily. This strips your skin of its essential protective barrier and either triggers water loss, dryness, sensitivity and spots, or it triggers those already active sebaceous glands to produce even more oil.

Protect.Apply a daily SPF. Choose SPF in your moisturising sunscreen or in your mineral make-up. (Sidenote: Mineral makeup makes topping up your protection so easy).

Exfoliate (daily if your skin is resistant). When it comes to nudging your dead skin cells along quicker to expose fresh new ones, I recommend high quality, chemical exfoliants (rather than scrubs with their harsh edges coming for your skin). Or enzyme exfoliators are best if your skin is sensitive.

Mask. Choose a Detox mask if skin is oily, combination or you want help with spots and blackheads. Choose a hydrating cream mask if you want help with lines and wrinkles or dry skin.

Dermarolling gives volume, health, glow, fewer lines and wrinkles. Choose 0.3mm needles for enhanced product absorption and growth factor stimulation. Choose 0.5mm needles for weekly collagen induction therapy. Only choose high quality needles. Low quality needles damage skin.

If needed:

Vitamin B3/Niacinamide is proven to reduce oil in oily skin.

Vitamin A tells your overactive oil glands to slow down production.

Choose oil-free moisturisers. Your skin is already rich in natural oils found in traditional moisturisers.

Vitamin B3/Niacinamidereduces excess oil and increases barrier strength, which makes it better at moisturising itself resulting in more even, dewy skin.

Vitamin A regulates skin: oil and hydration levels are coached into balance.

Vitamin B3/Niacinamide rebuilds your skin's moisture barrier and helps stops water loss through the skin resulting in more hydrated, dewy skin.

Masks and Balms replenish essential lipids, natural moisturising factors and hydration levels.

Vitamin B serumincreases ceramides in the outer skin layer, which makes it better at moisturising itself (and lots more besides), resulting in far more robust dewy skin.

Oils are your go-to when you need to soothe and heal aggravated, sensitive, cranky, inflamed skin.

An occlusive or balm acts like duct tape and will stop your skin from losing water, calm, soothes and helps speed up the skin healing process.

Good bacteria isn’t just for the gut. Probiotics restore a healthy microbiome, prevent environmental triggers and have a soothing effect on aggravated, cranky skin.

Vitamin A accelerates cell renewal, bringing fresh healthy skin cells to the surface faster, leading to a reduction in fine lines, more even skin tone and brighter plumper complexion. It also helps repair damaged cell DNA while you sleep.

Vitamin C is one of our star ingredients because it boosts collagen, strengthens elasticity, and provides a surge of antioxidant power to keep skin younger longer.

Peptides are powerful anti-ageing ingredients able to reverse cell ageing, trigger the skin to produce its own epidermal growth factors, hyaluronic acid and collagen. Soften and smooth fine lines and wrinkles and motivates stem cells to work harder and live longer.

Collagen drinks. A very easy boost to your body's naturally declining collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production. Look for drinks with high-grade hydrolysed marine collagen peptides that trigger the skin to produce collagen.

People say you can tell a person’s true age not by looking at their face but by their neck and hands. Take all your creams and serums down the neck.

Instead of reaching for a super drying spot treatment like benzoyl peroxide, choose fruit acids plus salicylic, and antibacterials to reduce redness and regulate the oil gland and unclog pores to get rid of congestion and help reduce pore size and blemishes

Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin Aand is fantastic ingredient for managing acne. It slows things down so fewer dead skin cells are trapped in the pores. It also regulates excess oils - two of the causes of acne

Vitamin Cwhen used as a spot treatment takes about 8 weeks (two skin cycles), but the antibacterial and skin clearing results can be pretty impressive.

LED based treatments are proven to kill bacteria and help reduce oil production and inflammation that causes acne. Blue light (415nm) targets and kills P. acnes bacteria living on your skin’s surface. Red light (633nm) penetrates into the dermis, triggering the body's own natural healing response, including the production of new collagen, the down-regulation of excess oils, and the reduction of inflammation and redness.

Once there are no signs of bacteria and spreading acne, Microneedlingcan be introduced to heal acne scarring and help normalise healthy skin.

Vitamin B regulates the oil gland and keeps pores clear of oil so they appear smaller.

Detox masks and clay masks absorb excess sebum, purifies pores and restores clarity to your complexion without drying it out.

Brightening serums decrease melanin synthesis, reduces tyrosinase activity and reduces the transfer of melanosomes to the outer skin. Have patience with any serums or treatments for pigmentation. Consistency is key to see if it truly works – several weeks of it, at a minimum. Ideally after kick-starting with light based treatment

Fruit acids are a home version of a peel and buff away any build up and surface pigmentation.

Vitamin C is a beloved skincare ingredient that helps with the appearance of uneven skin tone and pigmentation.

Vitamin B works to support your skin's immune response to UV light in addition to SPF.
